We have all walked through areas in our lives where we felt unequipped for the moment or season we were in. Whether it has been in relationships, raising a family, building a career, navigating mental or physical health challenges, or making difficult life decisions, those moments can feel overwhelming and even hopeless. But thanks to Jesus, we know that He has equipped us for every season. This month, we will walk through the many ways He has prepared and empowered us to live equipped, no matter what life brings our way.
Week 1: Equipped To Lead
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
–Hebrews 13:20-21
In Hebrews, God tells us that He equips us with every good thing to do His will. These good things look like peace, forgiveness, patience, wisdom, and so much more. When we feel stretched to the max between caring for our families, serving others, managing routines, balancing careers, and handling daily responsibilities, we may wonder if we have enough left to give.
When my family and I traveled overseas to Africa to serve, I remember feeling immediately overwhelmed and completely unequipped. If I had leaned into my own feelings and ideas about what I thought I was capable of, I might as well have gotten back on the airplane and gone home. Instead, God met me in that moment and reminded me to trust Him. He showed me that He would provide exactly what I needed.
Through prayer and dependence on Him, I discovered that God provides the grace and strength needed for each day. He equips us with His goodness so that we can serve others in a way that is pleasing to Him. God supplies what you need for the season He has placed you in.
Challenge Choose one area of your life where you feel unequipped and surrender it to God in prayer each day this week. Ask Him to provide the wisdom, strength, or peace you need for this season. Dig Deeper What area of your life currently makes you feel overwhelmed or inadequate? Are you relying more on your own abilities or God’s provision? How have you seen God equip you in previous seasons?
Week 2: Equipped Through Fellowship
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
–Ephesians 4:11-12
Have you ever found yourself asking, “God, what was I created for?” or “What is my purpose?” Maybe you’re walking through a difficult season that feels hard to navigate on your own.
Paul writes in Ephesians that God has given us the gift of leaders, pastors, and mentors to help guide us when we feel lost, encourage us when we feel discouraged, and celebrate alongside us in seasons of joy.
I once walked through a frustrating season of waiting, constantly living in the tension of the unknown and searching for answers. During that time, I was incredibly grateful for a mentor who continually pointed me back to trusting God’s timing. Her encouragement and leadership became a powerful example of what it means to trust the Lord amid uncertainty.
God often equips women through the wisdom, guidance, and encouragement of other believers. Sometimes the answer we need comes through the people He places in our lives.
Challenge Reach out to a mentor, pastor, or trusted believer this week. Ask for prayer, encouragement, or wisdom in an area where you need guidance. Dig Deeper Who has God placed in your life to help you grow spiritually? Are you allowing others to encourage and challenge you? How might God be calling you to encourage or mentor someone else?
Week 3: Equipped For The Battle
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
–Ephesians 6:10-11
We can be so quick to compare ourselves to others. In doing so, we often create insecurities and discouragement within our own hearts. The more we entertain those thoughts, the more room we give to lies, and before long, our minds become trapped by them.
The enemy is subtle. He was crafty in Genesis, and he is still crafty today. The lies he whispers can sound so close to the truth that we begin to believe them.
That is why Paul tells us in Ephesians to put on the Armor of God. His armor replaces lies with truth, renews our minds, strengthens our hearts, and helps us stand firm in our identity in Christ. God equips us with His armor so that we can guard our hearts and minds against the enemy and confidently walk in who He created us to be.
Challenge When you catch yourself comparing your life to someone else’s this week, stop and replace that thought with a truth from Scripture about your identity in Christ. Dig Deeper What lies have you recently believed about yourself? How do those lies affect your relationship with God and others? What truths from God’s Word can replace those lies?
Week 4: Equipped For my Calling
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
–1 Thessalonians 5:24
Recently, God called me to lead Bible studies and begin writing my own devotionals. You should have seen my face! I love Bible studies, spending time in His Word, worship, and all the things that come with growing in my faith, but I did not feel equipped for this new assignment.
I felt uncertain and inadequate, but God reminded me that many people throughout Scripture felt the same way when He called them. Again and again, He encouraged them to trust Him and take the next step.
Although this opportunity felt intimidating, it also felt exciting. So I chose to lean in and take steps of obedience and faith. Along the way, I learned that those small steps of faithfulness allowed me to experience God’s faithfulness in a deeper way. He carried me far beyond what my own abilities could have accomplished.
If God is calling you to something, you can trust that He will faithfully equip you for it. The God who calls you is also the God who prepares, strengthens, and walks with you every step of the way.
Challenge Take one step of obedience toward something God has been calling you to do, even if you don’t feel fully prepared. Dig Deeper Is there an area where fear is keeping you from moving forward? What might trusting God’s faithfulness look like in that situation? How has God proven faithful to you in the past?

Years back, my dad joined a small church in a small town in Virginia. Because of its size, the congregation was often asked to step in and help with various tasks. My dad was incredibly talented, had a knack for connecting with people, and possessed a genuine heart for the Lord.
One afternoon, he called me, clearly bothered by something. The church had asked him to take on responsibilities that were completely outside his comfort zone, and he was hesitant to commit. We had a discussion about it and then turned to the Word. The Scriptures made it clear that this challenge wasn’t just an opportunity for the church to grow—it was a personal area of growth for my dad, too.
I will never forget that conversation. My dad chose to step out of his comfort zone and commit to helping. As we talked, he said something that has stuck with me in many areas of my life to this day:
“Son, God does not always call those who are equipped, but He always equips those He calls.”
My dad has since passed, but that lesson never will.
As we enter this month’s focus on what it means to be Equipped, let that truth anchor you. When God calls you into deeper waters, you don’t need to bring your own supply of strength or certainty. You just need to bring your willingness to step out.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have spent a lifetime looking at challenges through the lens of my own limited resources, talents, and power. It is an exhausting way to live, relying entirely on the power of that little boy inside who feels overwhelmed by the task at hand.
But I am finally learning to step out of the way, drop my resistance, and see what God can do when we rely on His supply instead of our own.
True equipping doesn’t always follow our timeline. This month, I’m reflecting on the people and hard lessons the Lord placed in my path years ago that made absolutely no sense to me at the time. When we stop striving and simply listen, we can feel those old, hidden seeds rising up right when we need them. The Lord uncovers and uses them at the exact moment He sees fit.
This takes all the pressure off our shoulders. Just like my dad realized in that small town in Virginia, God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the ones He calls. The strength we need is a gift of grace, not something we have to manufacture.
Weekly Call to Action When a challenge pulls us out of our comfort zone, let’s pause and pray: “Father, I am still. Bring forward the seeds You’ve already planted, and equip me with Your strength, not my own.” Let’s Reflect Has there ever been a lesson you were taught years ago that you can now see was a seed planted for the Lord to use today?
Week 2: Equipped Through Fellowship
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
–Ephesians 4:11-12
For the longest time, I looked up at church pastors and others with big spiritual titles as the ones who were supposed to do all the heavy lifting. I would just show up to service and then go about my life throughout the rest of the week.
I used to think the “professionals” were the ones who handled the “churching” things, and the rest of us were just there to be spiritually fed and volunteer from time to time. This Scripture completely flips that thinking on its head. Christ didn’t establish leaders to do all the work themselves; He gave them to us to equip us so that we can step out and do the work of service together.
Reflecting back on my dad’s experience in that small-town church in Virginia, I see this so clearly now. When that congregation asked him to take on responsibilities that pulled him way out of his comfort zone, they weren’t just looking for an extra set of hands. God was using that leadership to draw out the unique talents and genuine heart He had already placed inside my dad. It was an area of personal growth meant to build him up so he could build up others.
True leadership doesn’t insist that we perform in our own power; rather, it helps us recognize the seeds the Lord has already planted in our hearts. When we stop focusing on our own limitations (which I still do all too often) and start trusting the mature spiritual authority God places around us, we begin to realize that we are all being readied for something bigger than ourselves.
We are equipped to connect, to love, and to serve God and others.
Weekly Call to Action This week, I have to ask myself: How do I truly feel when I am asked to contribute at church? Do I immediately look for excuses and focus on my own limitations? I need to look at the spiritual leaders and mentors God has placed around me and start viewing them not as a source of pressure, but as tools for my own growth. When an opportunity to serve or step out comes my way, I cannot shrink back or let old habits tell me that I’m not qualified. It’s time for me to step out of my comfort zone, trust the supply God gives through His people, and ask: “Lord, how are You using this moment to shape me so I can help build up Your body?”
Week 3: Equipped For The Battle
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
–Ephesians 6:10-11
For most of my life, whenever a battle or a heavy challenge came my way, I immediately suited up in my own version of armor.
Back in the day, that armor was a bad attitude and a literal baseball bat. I carried one everywhere I went, to the point that I was nicknamed “Baseball Bat Dave.” Looking back now, I’m not even entirely sure why I did it, but at the time it gave me a sense of comfort and control.
I lived with the firm belief that if a problem arose, I could just apply enough willpower, lean on my own smarts, and rally whatever human resources I had to fight my way through it.
But this Scripture reminds me that fighting in my own power is an exhausting, losing battle. (It is!)
The text doesn’t tell us to be strong in ourselves; it says to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. The armor we are given isn’t a weapon we forge from our own anger, grit, or limited human resources, it is a gift of grace already waiting for us.
I had to learn to trade my old baseball bat for His truth, righteousness, and peace. When I drop my resistance and stop trying to fight with my own human tools, I can finally see what His divine protection can do.
Weekly Call to Action This week, I need to look at the battles and anxieties I am currently facing and ask myself: Whose armor am I wearing? Am I still trying to carry my old “baseball bat”—relying on a bad attitude, pure willpower, and my own smarts to force an outcome? Or am I standing firm in His mighty power? When the pressure builds, I will pause, drop my self-reliance, and pray: “Lord, I lay down my old weapons and my own toolkit today. Cover me in Your armor, and let me stand firm in Your strength alone.”
Week 4: Equipped For my Calling
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
–1 Thessalonians 5:24
This verse takes me right back to that afternoon phone call with my dad when he was hesitant to help that small church in Virginia.
When he told me, “Son, God does not always call those who are equipped, but He always equips those He calls,” he was speaking this exact eternal truth.
My dad has since passed, but that truth remains just as relevant and eternal today.
I remember a time when I was trying to secure a highly favorable business deal. I prepared, some would say overprepared, yet I was still anxious beyond belief, almost sick to my stomach, knowing I was up against some very robust competitors.
Before walking in, I gulped deeply and asked God to join me in that room.
I don’t recall much of the presentation itself, but I will never forget feeling His undeniable presence and peace. That day, I learned a lesson I still use today: I do my part. I “suit up and show up.” I ask for His help, and then I let God do His part. The pressure is entirely off.
The verse doesn’t say we have to do it; it says He will do it.
The same faithful God who places a challenge in front of you is the One responsible for supplying the strength to see it through, and He did for me.
Weekly Call to Action This week, I need to look at the areas where I feel hesitant, unqualified, or anxious and ask myself: Am I trusting in my own fluctuating abilities, or am I resting in the unchanging faithfulness of God? I will stop running, do my part, and let God do His. When the Lord calls me into deeper waters, I will drop my resistance and pray: “Father, Your truth stands forever. I trust that You are faithful. I trust the seeds You have planted, and I step out today knowing that You will do it.”

Relationships can be challenging, and each season looks a little different. When you’re dating, you’re learning to navigate getting to know each other and the expectations that each person brings into the relationship. In marriage, the challenges grow as you build a life together. Each of you brings pieces of the family you came from while also trying to determine what your new family will look like.
Week 1: Equipped To Lead

Relationships can be challenging, and each season looks a little different. When you’re dating, you’re learning to navigate getting to know each other and the expectations that each person brings into the relationship. In marriage, the challenges grow as you build a life together. Each of you brings pieces of the family you came from while also trying to determine what your new family will look like.
The balance of work, family, and finances can feel overwhelming. Just when you think you’ve found a rhythm, an unexpected bump in the road can leave you feeling unqualified and unequipped. We may feel frustrated, angry, devastated, fearful, or discouraged. In those moments, we may even ask, “How do I honor God in this situation?”
In Hebrews, God encourages us with a promise of peace and reminds us that He equips us to do His will. God doesn’t simply call us to honor Him; He equips us to do so. As we walk through life’s challenges, He faithfully provides wisdom, patience, forgiveness, and strength for whatever lies ahead.
Challenge Together, identify one challenge your relationship is currently facing and pray over it each day this week, asking God to equip you with what you need. Dig Deeper What situation in your marriage currently feels beyond your ability to handle? How can you invite God into that challenge? What qualities do you need most right now: patience, wisdom, forgiveness, or peace?
Week 2: Equipped Through Fellowship
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
–Ephesians 4:11-12
One of the best investments my husband and I have made in our marriage has been participating in small groups. There have been seasons when we joined men’s and women’s groups separately, and other seasons when we participated in couples groups together.
In Ephesians, Paul tells us that Jesus has given us leaders, mentors, and pastors to build up the body of Christ. Throughout my life, I have been blessed with mentors, some for a season and some for a lifetime. During difficult seasons in my marriage, I am grateful for those who pointed me back to the Word of God, encouraged me, and prayed for our marriage.
As important as it is to have godly leaders speaking into our lives, it is equally important to be that leader for someone else. What an incredible gift God has given us through the example, wisdom, and guidance of others. Through these relationships, we learn how to communicate better, pray together, and navigate challenges in a biblical way.
Challenge Connect with a trusted couple, mentor, pastor, or small group this week and intentionally seek godly encouragement. Dig Deeper Who speaks biblical truth into your marriage? Are you willing to be honest about your struggles and receive help? How could your relationship encourage another couple?
Week 3: Equipped For The Battle
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
–Ephesians 6:10-11
Busy schedules, stress, and misunderstandings can quickly create tension in a relationship. A harsh word is spoken, offense takes root, and before we know it, the enemy has found an opportunity to sow division.
The battles we face in these moments are spiritual, and Ephesians reminds us that we cannot fight them apart from God. Instead of viewing one another as the enemy, we can recognize who the real enemy is and stand united against him. God has equipped us with spiritual armor so that we can stand firm in prayer and rely on His truth to protect our marriages.
Couples are strongest when they fight spiritual battles together rather than fighting against each other.
Challenge The next time conflict arises, pause and pray together before continuing the conversation. Dig Deeper Do you view your spouse as the problem when tension arises? What spiritual attacks commonly affect your relationship? How can you become more intentional about fighting for each other instead of against each other?
Week 4: Equipped For my Calling
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
–1 Thessalonians 5:24
Whether we are waiting for a call back about a job, navigating parenting struggles, or facing health concerns, waiting can be one of the most difficult parts of any challenge. We often expect quick answers, or at least timely ones, but sometimes the answers take longer than we hoped. In those seasons, we can feel stuck, uncertain, and unsure of what to do next.
Perhaps God has placed a calling on your heart that feels completely outside your comfort zone. Maybe he is asking you to step into something new, and the thought of it feels overwhelming.
Even when we don’t see immediate answers or feel equipped for what God is calling us to do, He is faithfully working in and through every circumstance. The God who calls you is the same God who equips you, and His faithfulness is always greater than your circumstances.
Challenge Share one area where you are waiting on God, and pray for each other daily in that area this week. Dig Deeper What are you trusting God for right now? How has waiting affected your faith? What would it look like to trust God’s timing together as a couple?

The world asks so much of you. It asks you to be responsible, navigate adult-sized challenges, manage relationships and emotions, and make important decisions. Sometimes those moments can leave you feeling unequipped and out of control.
There may be situations you’re facing that feel impossible to overcome, family challenges that seem crushing, school decisions that feel overwhelming, or maybe you’re simply trying to figure out where you belong. God teaches us that we are equipped to handle the situations and seasons that come our way because He Himself is with us. This month, we will discover the many ways He has prepared and equipped us to face life’s challenges with confidence and faith.
There are so many pressures during your teenage years. The pressure to do well in school, succeed in sports, make the right choices, meet expectations, and plan for the future can feel never-ending.
One pressure that often goes unspoken is faith. There can be pressure when it comes to believing in Jesus, talking about Him, or living out your faith boldly. We worry about what our friends will think, and sometimes even what our family will think if they don’t share our beliefs.
When we follow God, He promises to equip us with every good thing and give us His peace. This peace may not look like the world’s version of peace, but it is even greater because it comes from knowing we are walking in His will. As you seek God, He will give you the courage to make godly choices and the confidence to live differently. God equips you for every challenge, regardless of your circumstances or your age.
Challenge This week, choose one situation where you normally rely on yourself and intentionally ask God for help before trying to handle it on your own. Dig Deeper What pressure do you feel most often? Does your faith ever feel difficult to live out around friends or family? How can God’s peace help you face those pressures differently?
Week 2: Equipped Through Fellowship
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
–Ephesians 4:11-12
Some of my favorite memories are from youth retreats and church events. They were filled with friends, laughter, and fun experiences, but what stayed with me most were the people who invested in my life.
I am so grateful for the leaders, Bible teachers, and mentors who poured into me. They taught me how to study God’s Word and showed me who Christ was through their love, patience, and forgiveness. Through their mentorship and guidance, I gained confidence, encouragement, and a deeper faith.
Just as those mentors helped shape my life, God can use you to encourage and influence others as well. God places leaders in our lives to help prepare us for His purpose, and sometimes He calls us to be that leader for someone else.
Challenge Thank a leader, youth pastor, teacher, mentor, or parent who has helped you grow in your faith. Dig Deeper Who has had the biggest impact on your spiritual growth? What have you learned from their example? Is there someone younger or newer in their faith that you could encourage?
Week 3: Equipped For The Battle
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
–Ephesians 6:10-11
Have you ever grabbed your phone in the morning only to realize it’s at 2% battery? You can make it through for a little while, but eventually you’ll run out of power.
Many teens try to face temptation, anxiety, pressure, and challenges in their own strength. The Christian life isn’t always easy, and there are plenty of things that try to pull us away from God. The good news is that God never intended for us to fight those battles alone.
He gives us His armor so we can stand strong. God equips us with His strength instead of asking us to rely on our own. Through the Armor of God, He gives us the exact tools we need to face temptation, fear, and spiritual battles. When we put on the full armor of God, we can stand firm because He provides the protection and strength we need.
Challenge Read through the Armor of God passage this week and pray through each piece of armor every morning. Dig Deeper What temptations or struggles do you face most often? Where do you need God’s strength instead of relying on your own? How can God’s truth help you when you feel anxious, insecure, or discouraged?
Week 4: Equipped For my Calling
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
–1 Thessalonians 5:24
Many people believe that following Jesus means having it all together. Looking good on the outside and the inside. Making all the right choices. Never struggling.
But the truth is, we all struggle and fall short. Sometimes forgiveness feels too big to receive, and sometimes we feel like we aren’t good enough for God to use us.
Yet Paul reminds us that God is faithful. He keeps His promises even when we struggle. He calls us even when we don’t feel like we’ve measured up. He calls us when we feel inadequate, unprepared, and unequipped.
And when He calls us, He doesn’t leave us on our own. He meets us where we are and walks with us into what He is calling us to become.
Over time, you’ll discover that God is patient and continues working in your life even when growth feels slow. He doesn’t give up on you. He is still shaping you, strengthening you, and equipping you for all He has planned for you.
Challenge Write down one thing you believe God may be calling you to do and take one small step toward it this week. Dig Deeper Have you ever felt unqualified or not good enough for God to use you? What fears make it difficult to trust God’s calling? How does knowing God is faithful change the way you approach challenges?
